FAQ's
Q: What is a MIAM and do I need one?
A: A MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting) is a short meeting to discuss if mediation is right for you. In the UK, you legally must attend a MIAM before you can apply to court for child arrangements or financial orders, unless an exemption applies to your case. Book a MIAM or learn more about the mediation process below:
Q: How much does family mediation cost in Bath?
A: Mediation is significantly cheaper than using solicitors for a court battle. At Rosewood, we offer competitive fixed fees. Additionally, you may be eligible for the Government’s £500 Voucher Scheme which contributes towards the cost of mediation for child arrangements. Learn more about fees and government funding below:
Q: Is the mediation agreement legally binding?
The agreement reached in mediation is not automatically binding, which allows you to test it out. However, once you are happy, your agreement can be drafted into a "Consent Order" by a solicitor and stamped by the court, making it legally binding and enforceable.
Q: Do I have to be in the same room as my ex-partner?
A: No. We offer "shuttle mediation" where you sit in separate rooms (or separate Zoom calls), and the mediator moves between you. This is helpful if communication is difficult or if there are high levels of conflict. Find out more about the process below:
